INsight/ Embodying Your Leadership

Manila, 17 July 2026 — What challenges help leaders embody their leadership?

Story

Executive leadership rewards capable thinkers. Success strengthens their ability to analyze, decide, and act with confidence.

It also strengthens the assumption that leadership happens primarily through thinking.

Yet the body senses reality all along. Leadership narrows when leaders exclude what the body is already sensing. Leadership expands when they learn to include it.

Challenge

Embodied leadership involves working on three deeper challenges.

The first challenge is noticing how quickly thinking takes over. The second is becoming curious about what makes it easy to override, dismiss, or explain away what the body is already sensing. The third is learning to include what the body is already sensing in how leaders understand situations and choose their responses.

In our work with executive leaders, we have found that this deeper work takes time, deliberate practice, reflection, and skilled executive coaching. As leaders learn to include what they sense, leadership presence grows.

Question

Leadership expands when leaders learn to include what the body is already sensing.

That deeper work asks leaders to slow down, become more curious, and develop new ways of making sense of themselves and the situations they face.

What becomes possible when leaders learn to embody their leadership?
