INsight/ Permission to Lead (1/3)

Manila, 15 March 2026 — What if your permission to lead never comes?

Story

Many capable leaders hesitate at key moments. Not because they lack ideas or care. But because they quietly wonder whether it’s their place.

In a recent conversation in our community, a participant described a familiar situation. She saw clearly what her team needed but hesitated to say it with conviction.

Part of her was waiting for confirmation — from senior colleagues, from the culture, from the moment itself.

Challenge

Then she realized something simple but powerful: the permission she was waiting for might never arrive.

Many leaders operate longer than they realize in what psychologists call the socialized mind. We look to others for cues about what is acceptable, appropriate, or expected.

This makes us cooperative and thoughtful, yet sometimes overly cautious when leadership is needed. Leadership often begins with a quiet inner shift: moving from waiting for permission to authorizing yourself to act.

Question

So here is a reflection for this week.

Where in your work are you still waiting for permission — from hierarchy, culture, or expectations?

And what small leadership step might appear if you simply gave yourself that permission and practiced it this week?
