Manila, 22 October 2025 — How can you practice curiosity and care this week to connect more deeply with your team?

Story

Last week, I noticed how easy it is to get lost in our Achieving Mind, focused solely on tasks and results. I was preparing a presentation when a colleague tried to share an idea, and I almost brushed it off. In that moment, I realized how the Achieving Mind narrows our attention and blocks connection. Stepping back, I consciously shifted into the Awakened Mind—curious, open, and present. Suddenly, I could see their perspective and feel the richness of connecting.

Leadership isn’t only about what we achieve but also about how we connect with people around us. The Awakened Mind allows us to listen deeply, observe carefully, and respond with care. I remembered Confucius’ words: “Behave toward everyone as if receiving a great guest,” and Brené Brown’s reminder that connection is the energy created when people feel seen, heard, and valued.

It struck me how often leaders miss opportunities to influence positive change because they neglect connecting. Making space in our minds and opening our hearts allows us to bridge gaps between ourselves and others. When we connect first, everything else becomes possible.

Challenge

This week, notice where the Three Connect Gaps—Mind, Heart, and Language—show up in your work. Observe how your focus on results might narrow your awareness of others. Where do you find yourself talking more than listening?

Practice curiosity: reach out to a colleague or team member to learn something new about them. Step into their perspective and pay attention to their language, needs, and worldview.

Finally, try to speak their language in one conversation. Align your message, words, and behavior to create a connection. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but that discomfort signals growth.

Question

Which of the Three Connect Gaps is most present for you right now, and how is it limiting your leadership influence?

How can you practice curiosity and care this week to bridge that gap, connect more deeply, and create a stronger impact in your team or workplace?
