ACTivity/ The LEADcoach Challenge

Manila, 4 July 2024 — Leaders learn how to use the coaching style in their workplace. You can start now.

Story

It happened over the past decade. More leaders than ever before became curious about how to use the coaching style in conversations with their colleagues. Not in all conversations, of course. Effective leaders are known for mastering several styles and choosing the one that best suits the situation at hand and their audience. Many, however, have discovered that the coaching style produced more positive results than they thought possible.

In our work with leaders, we have seen this surprising result happen time after time. After completing the multi-day onsite leadership training programs we have offered over the past decade, participants would almost always single out the hands-on coaching practice as the session they found most surprising and impactful for their work.

While many of our training sessions have since moved online, the popularity of coaching practice has remained unchanged. When it comes to learning how to use the coaching style, we found that taking online training can be equally or even more effective for participants than onsite training. We are keen for many more leaders to discover the benefits of using the coaching style, and that is what this post is about.

Challenge

First things first. As with all areas of leadership development, we know that the best way to learn how to use the coaching style is with a bit of knowledge, followed by lots of practice, and then making time for feedback and reflection.

In our workshops for using the coaching style, the biggest challenge is, invariably, how to shift your full attention from yourself to the colleague you are using the coaching style with. This is more difficult than you think, and that’s where lots of practice leads to progress.

The first thing we share in our workshops is to adopt the coaching mindset: to show up as non-distracted, non-directive, and non-judgmental. There is a lot to unpack there, with practice being essential to start getting results right away.

Question

Using the coaching style is one of the twelve effective leadership behaviors we explore in the Grow3Leaders community of practice. Now, we are going a step further to offer more leaders the opportunity to learn and practice the coaching style.

Starting this week, we are introducing The LEADcoach Challenge where you, and three of your colleagues whom you invite to form a Collab with you, can earn certification as leaders who know how to use the coaching style in your workplace conversations. Are you committed to learning and practicing together? Then you can get certified within two months.

Our first coaching workshop is on Friday 19 July and we expect you to introduce your Collab on Monday 15 July. Visit the Grow3Leaders landing page to discover the requirements and apply for your monthly membership to join. Like the many leaders who have already mastered the coaching style with us during the past decade, you will be surprised at the impact you will have in your workplace. See you in the Grow3Leaders community!
