ACTivity/ Taking the Challenge
/Manila, 26 May 2021 — What change will you influence in your workplace?
Story
It happened in 2019. A group of friends and I started an experiment. The question was how to bring leadership development to speed and scale for the decisive decade to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. And to do so in a 21st-century collaborative way.
So we came up with a challenge to learn leadership together in Collabs (small teams of 1 + 3 colleagues) by practicing it hands-on in the workplace or project. Not for a year, or six months, but to get a result in only 6 to 8 weeks. Those who joined had the vision to make changes happen in their workplace. And they believed that what they did would serve the bigger goals of making our world more sustainable, inclusive, and safe.
Since then, we have seen Collabs in workplaces spread across the world take on challenges to introduce cross-generational collaboration, give staff more space and trust irrespective of hierarchy, practice new leadership behaviors, take team spirit to the next level, give and receive feedback, improve public speaking, overcome fears, boost confidence, balance work and personal life, use the power of questions, look after staff health and happiness, identify people’s individual strengths, use different styles of communication fit for purpose, take a people-centered approach with team and clients, and partners, and more.
Challenge
So what’s the challenge? It’s called Grow3Leaders. It’s not a training course, but you learn a lot from the moment you decide to take it on and get to work. Visualize that you’re in the driver’s seat for this challenge. If you say Yes, you go and invite 3 workplace or project colleagues to join you in making a change happen in only 6 to 8 weeks’ time. And you will get support through group coaching and access to learning resources about 12 leadership behaviors, supported by tools that you can use right away where you are.
This week we’re enrolling new Collabs. They will go through the 8-week process at the same time, starting early next week. Each week has a theme. So if you’d like to take the challenge, the time to form your Collab is now before the doors close. In my experience, what helps to get started is to find enthusiastic colleagues who like working with you and have a passion for sustainability.
Over the past days, I’ve listened to leaders who are forming Collabs in countries spread across 4 continents. It’s so exciting to hear what a range of changes they want to influence! For leaders, there’s no shortage of ideas about changes they want to see. I’ve answered many questions too, and these conversations were great, so don’t hesitate to set one up this week or, latest, this weekend.
Question
For this week, the question is really simple, and it is if you will take benefit of our enrollment period this week to start the Grow3Leaders challenge?
If you do, be very quick to form your Collab. Invite and grow 3 leaders. And let me know if you have questions so we can set up a call to help you. Here’s a booking link, or reach out to me in a message or email. One question that many have asked me is why is it Free of Charge — Not Free of Commitment? Because we want to develop this challenge into a new way of growing more leaders around the world at speed and scale.
Those of you who are following my posts will know that we also offer paid one-to-one leadership coaching. You can read about our Leader in Transition Program on our website.
