It happened over the past two decades. A giant window has opened up on supporting adult human development. Before that, developmental research into humans was mostly focused on the stages that children pass through on their way through childhood to adolescence and adulthood. Now, attention has grown for developmental stages that adults can navigate on the road to maximizing their potential as humans. 

This is good news because our world is crying out for fully developed humans of all ages to get together and solve our pressing problems in workplaces and at city, national, and international levels. Starting the new year is a particularly important time to review our own development against our vision and our potential. How can we continue our adult human development this year?

For leaders, this is especially important, and also urgent. We need to transform into effective leaders—to bring out our best—at a time that the world around us is getting more complex and uncertain. Some might add volatile. As we set out to help others create positive changes, we need to look after our own further development too. Now, at the beginning of the new year, is an excellent time to give that our full attention.
